Villages & Dales Walk

Starts and finishes in Youlgreave. This walk passes through 6 Peak District villages, all exuding their own very different charm & character. As well as the villages, we will walk through lovely dales and rivers along the way (so be prepared for mud in inclement weather!). The route takes us past the 'Nine Ladies Stone Circle' before descending back into the peaceful Bradford Dale and back into Youlgreave.

Postboxes on Kinder Scout

Before you ask.....No! These aren't the big red metal postboxes you see on the street corner! These are small boxes hidden on top of Kinder Scout. There are 4 (that I know of) which contain a book, a stamp and various other bits of trivia. People write a short message in the book, stamp their own log-book and then move on to find the next. On Exmoor & Dartmoor, finding postboxes has became a big thing and there are literally hundreds of them hidden on the moors. Fortunately, we only have the 4 on Kinder, so this walk is really manageable! I wont say where they are....you will have to join me on the walk. Needless to say, this walk will involve some stiff climbs onto Kinder Scout.

Castleton Spectacular

This walk starts and finishes in the one of the most famous villages in the Peak District, Castleton. If you ever did geography or Geology at school, you've probably visited Castleton on a Field-Trip! Situated on the geological border-line of the Dark & White Peak, Castleton is famous for its show-caves and dramatic limestone gorges.

The walk passes by some of the caverns and proceeds to climb up Mam-Tor (Shivering Mountain) and then along the Mam-Tor Ridge with fantastic views into both the Vale of Edale and the Hope Valley. A final descent from Lose Hill brings us back into Castleton, where there are plentiful tourist shops and pubs serving good food and good beer.
